Il film esplora le tecniche e le diverse sensibilità di cinque artisti che lavorano a Berlino. Olafur Eliasson crea sculture e installazioni spettacolari usando elementi naturali come la luce, l’acqua e l’aria per alterare la percezione sensoriale dell’osservatore e proporre nuove soluzioni a problemi globali come i cambiamenti climatici. Nathalie Djurberg e Hans Berg creano inquietanti film d’animazione con sculture in plastilina che si muovono al ritmo di ipnotiche colonne sonore. Le sculture, i video e le performance dell’artista curdo-iracheno Hiwa K intrecciano la sua storia personale con la grande storia delle migrazioni e dei rapporti tra Oriente e Occidente. Susan Philipsz considera il suono come un oggetto scultoreo: usando fonti musicali storiche crea nuove e suggestive installazioni sonore.

This film explores the diversity of practice and sensibilities of five artists that are based in Berlin. Olafur Eliasson produces epic, technically sophisticated sculptures and installations, using natural elements like light, water and air to alter viewers’ sensory perceptions and to offer solutions to global problems such as climate change. Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, creates unsettling animated films with clay sculptures which move to the rhythm of hypnotic sound tracks. The sculptures, videos, and performances by the Iraqi-Kurdish artist Hiwa K mix his biography with the larger story of migration and East-West relations. Susan Philipsz treats audio as a sculptural object using musical historical-resonant sources to create unexpectedly haunting and lyrical installations.
Rafael Salazar e Ava Wiland vivono a Brooklyn e sono produttori, registi e direttori della fotografia, specializzati in documentari sull'arte e sugli artisti contemporanei.
