Invitata a realizzare un’opera per l’isola di Espiritu Santo in Messico, la scultrice spagnola Cristina Iglesias ha creato un labirinto di stanze sommerse che, favorendo la vita marina, si erge a sigillo e monito per la protezione e valorizzazione dell’area dichiarata dal 2005 sito UNESCO. Realizzata con un particolare cemento a pH compatibile con l’acqua marina, l'opera si trova a 14 metri di profondità nella Bahia de Candelero ed è composta da un insieme di 14 grate, alte 3 metri, che formano due insiemi di ambienti. Il film documenta la lunga gestazione dell’opera, durata quattro anni, celebrando l’unione tra arte, scienza e impegno civile in difesa dell’ambiente. Una suggestiva fotografia e le musiche di Stephan Micus e Hector Martell contribuiscono a restituire la bellezza e l’atmosfera dei luoghi.

Invited to create a piece for Espiritu Santo Island in Mexico, Spanish sculptress Cristina Iglesias devised a submerged labyrinth of rooms conducive to marine life which rises from the seabed not only in homage, but also as an admonition that the site, added to the UNESCO world heritage list in 2005, must be protected and enhanced. Executed in a type of cement with seawater-compatible pH levels, the artwork, positioned at a depth of 14 meters in the Bahìa de Candelero, is composed of 14 latticed screens, each 3 meters in height, which form two distinct environments. The film documents the 4-year period required to realize the work and celebrates the combined efforts of art, science and civil commitment to defend the environment, highlighting the beauty and atmosphere of the site through evocative photography, accompanied by the music of Stephan Micus and Hector Martell.
