Per cinquant'anni Werner e Gaby Merzbacher hanno avuto in casa una delle collezioni d'arte più importanti del mondo, circondati da opere di Matisse, Kandinsky, Picasso e molti altri, fino al giorno in cui l'intera raccolta è stata trasportata alla Kunsthaus Zürich. Il film parte da questo momento, intrecciando il racconto della storia della collezione e del suo collezionista. Nato in Germania da una famiglia ebrea, il giovane Werner sfuggì all’Olocausto e rimase orfano; nel 1949 emigrò negli Stati Uniti, conobbe la moglie Gabriele e tornò in Svizzera dove divenne imprenditore. In questi anni la coppia iniziò a collezionare opere d’arte, dai dipinti dei grandi maestri di fine Ottocento e delle avanguardie del Novecento, fino a opere più recenti di artisti come Pipilotti Rist.
For fifty years Werner and Gaby Merzbacher have had one of the world's most important art collections in their home, surrounded by works by Matisse, Kandinsky, Picasso and many others, until the day the entire collection was transported to the Kunsthaus Zürich. The film begins at this moment, weaving together the story of the collection and its collector. Born in Germany to a Jewish family, young Werner escaped the Holocaust and was orphaned; in 1949, he emigrated to the United States, met his wife Gabriele and returned to Switzerland, where he became an entrepreneur. During these years, the couple began collecting art, from paintings by the great masters of the late 19th century and the avant-garde of the 20th century to more recent works by artists like Pipilotti Rist.

Yves Kugelmann è un giornalista, regista e produttore svizzero-francese. Gestisce una casa editrice e le società di produzione cinematografica JMAG productions e Wanda International. Da produttore ha realizzato diversi documentari e film, tra cui Dov'è Anna Frank (2021) con Ari Folman, Cineaste et Visionnaire (2023) su Pierre Koralnik e I Dance, But My Heart is Crying (2023) con Christoph Weinert. Nel 2023 ha diretto Documenting Israel sulla fotografia da Robert Capa a Inge Morath in Israele e Palestina.
