Alice Denney, insider della Casa Bianca e amica dei Kennedy, raccomanda l’ambizioso curatore Alan Solomon per organizzare la partecipazione degli Stati Uniti alla Biennale. Insieme a Leo Castelli, celebre gallerista newyorkese, i due intraprendono un piano audace per far vincere il Gran Premio all’artista americano Robert Rauschenberg lasciando che la stampa internazionale gridi allo scandalo.
Cut like a caper, the film reveals the story behind the controversies of the 1964 Venice Biennale. At the height of the Cold War, the U.S. government, determined to fight communism even through culture, turns the world’s most influential art exhibition into a testing ground. Alice Denney, a White House insider and friend of the Kennedys, recommends the ambitious curator Alan Solomon to organize U.S. participation in the Biennale. Together with Leo Castelli, the famous New York gallerist, the two embark on a bold plan to secure the Grand Prize for American artist Robert Rauschenberg, allowing the international press to cry scandal.
