At a time when women's rights were still not recognised, she managed to fulfil her desire to become a painter and to find her own voice as an artist. The film explores her art and her inseparable connection with both a man and a place: Alfred Stieglitz, the eminent photographer and influential New York gallerist, and New Mexico, her beloved landscape. This fascinating life story is accompanied by Barbara Buhler Lynes, art historian and co-founder of the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe and the O'Keeffe Research Center, and her biographer, the writer Roxana Robinson.

Evelyn Schels è un’autrice e regista tedesca che vive e lavora tra Monaco e Parigi. Dopo una formazione in letteratura comparata e storia dell'arte, ha iniziato a produrre e dirigere documentari per il cinema e per la televisione, con particolare attenzione all'arte, al teatro e alla letteratura. Ha realizzato film su artisti come Jean Tinguely, Amedeo Modigliani, Georg Baselitz e nel 2019 ha diretto Body of Thruth (2019) su Marina Abramović, Shirin Neshat, Sigalit Landau e Katharina Sieverding.
